REFASHION: Three pieces into a snazzy two-piece!

Refashioning something that's inspired by...

This years challenge from The Refashioners is reimagining something that was once something else, and turning it into your inspiration image. Well....that's a hard one for me. The inspiration in refashioning for me is mostly the garments itselves. But I like a challenge so I went for it.

On my Pinterest I gathered loads of inspiration images so there I would pick one image.... Hmmm, difficult! I decided to make a compilation of images of jackets that inspire me and work from there.

Going through my thriftshop stash I found three items I could use for a jacket. I picked up these pieces in the thriftshop because I'm into plaid at the moment, I'm a sucker for leopard print and my everlasting love for black and white striped pieces. (Check my Instagram and you'll see....)

Pattern chosing and dismatle

I chose a pattern of a bomberjacket I used before and cut it so that I was able to use the three garments. Colorblocking! First I cut the blazer. I re-used the pockets and put them in the jackets a bit tilted.

I only just used the front of the blazer and part of the sleeves, The back I kept for the second piece.
Cutting the other pieces out of the other garment and then let the assembly begin.

Assemble

Very easy assebly because I could use the black and white stripes as a guideline. It's just a little jigsaw again.

Putting in the zipper I marked with some thread where the stripes schould match. A must.

The cuffs I changed during the proces. First I used the small stripes of the t-shirt dress, but didn't quite like the outcome so I put in cuffs of the plaided fabric. I cut this a bit bigger and bias grain so there was a bit of stretch. Works well!

Around the waist I chose the bigger stripes, but I felt there was something missing so I added some leopard print. Always a good idea!

Putting in some lining, adding my label and a loop and the jacket is done!

Really happy with the result! Defenitely a LIESL jacket! A wonderful addition to my wardrobe!

On my Youtube you'll find a speedy make of this bomberjacket!

There is more!

This supposed to be my entry for The Refashioners 2018, but I had quite some fabric left. So I decided to add a skirt to the jacket, making it a snazzy two-piece. Used a for me familiar pattern. (Read about it in my blog or watch a little video with a superfast making off)

I had enough fabric for the front part of the skirt. Added some leopard flaps. Easy peasy!
The back was another story. I made that with the scraps that were left. Using the lapel of the blazer as the slit.
I had to add some more leopard at the back because I just lacked those pieces. Let's call it a design feature! Worked out just fine.
